On the fourth Sunday of the month, the location of the church service alternates between the small church in Ham (yesterday's post) and the somewhat larger church in Shalbourne, the village where the table top sale was yesterday. Palm Sunday is the fourth Sunday of March this year, and the service was in Shalbourne.
I took some photos before the service while the choir was practicing, and some after the service; none during the service. The choir rehearsal:
This gentleman would read the first scripture lesson during the service.
A view of the altar area.
The organist, playing All Glory, Laud, and Honor after the service. About 30 people attended this Palm Sunday service.
A couple of memorials on the walls. The first is for Jethro Tull, an 18th century man who is credited with beginning the agricultural revolution in Great Britain (the rock band is named for him). The second one is typical of several others; this one is for a man who died in 1799. The church in Shalbourne (not the building) dates from the 1200s. I don't know the age of the church building, but a plaque states that it was completely refurbished in the 1870s; that would explain why it looks so Victorian.
Lunch with friends back in Ham. It was a good day to remain indoors, with the outside temperature hovering around freezing and a brisk wind.
